π The past 30 years of my life, the most important discoveries I've made were discovering principles that help me stay aligned with the kind of life I want to live.
π be curious, not judgmental. Curiosity is the biggest factor that pushes me to rethink what I know, what I don't know, and embrace that I may be wrong. It begins with acceptance which provides the freedom and humility to stay curious. Curiosity is what makes our lives an adventure, full of discovery. It's what makes us alive.
If knowledge is power, knowing what you don't know is wisdom by Adam Grant
ππ½ build community β we are social creatures and the biggest factor to increased life expectancy is strong social connections. In this ever-crowded world, we strive for belonging. In the past few centuries, with the rise of capitalism, we've been pressured to think as individuals & focus on ourselves. Yet I have trouble remembering any moment of true happiness that didn't involve a loved one around me.
We have all known the long loneliness and we have learned that the only solution is love and that love comes with community by Dorothy Day
π stay fluid β There is rarely a binary outcome in life, most things are in the gray area. These include all our judgements and generalizations about others but also about ourselves. We overestimate what we can do in a day, but always underestimate what we can do in a month. So whatever you want to do, lean into the waves, and start.
The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance by Alan Watts
π focus on the journey β life itself isn't an outcome, it's a process. We live to experience and to learn from experience. Don't get stuck up on decisions, outcomes or rush to get to the summit. Focus on the how, lean into your decisions and learn from them.
To live only for some future goal is shallow. It's the sides of the mountain that sustain life, not the top by Robert Pirsig
π be vulnerable β let go of who you are supposed to be. Just show up, without having full control in the outcome. Get your ass kicked. There is no bravery, leadership or innovation without vulnerability and failure. Oh and don't listen to people who are too scared to be vulnerable. Their opinions don't matter.
You either walk inside your story and own it or you stand outside your story and hustle for your worthiness by Brene Brown
